The Picasso Museum

It is a unique setup, a spot where he who was once a master of the delicate brush created part of his work. Located in the confines of Chateau Grimaldi, a Roman castle that was the residence of bishops from around the 5^th century to the14^th , the place captures one with its eerie silence and settled atmosphere.

The chateau has been turned into a museum dedicated to the painter ever since 1966 and comprises all the artwork that was completed by Picasso on his 3 months stay in the Antibes. At the beginning it contained 23 paintings (ripolin, charcoal, graphite on fibrocement, re-used wood or canvas) and 44 drawings left by the artist to the town upon his departure. It slowly grew in time through purchase and donations and now contains around 250 works made by Picasso.

It is indeed something that has to be experienced. The feeling of the castle combines with the cultural load of the art works inside, offering a marvelous view on the life and mind of Picasso which can be contemplated while admiring the shores of the Mediterranean from the fortress’ great vantage point.
